White vinegar is eco-friendly, cheap, and works miracles on so many jobs around the house. I buy it by the gallon and use it for cooking, cleaning, and deodorizing.
Laundry - Put a cup of vinegar in the laundry to take out pet odors, mildew smells, and soften clothes.
Steam Mop - fill your tank with 2/3 water to 1/3 vinegar to help sanitize, break down grime, and deodorize tile and hard floors.
Carpet Shampoo - Mix a cup of vinegar into the rinse water in order to take smells out of carpets and rugs.
Microwave - Put 1 cup of vinegar in a glass container and microwave for 4-5 minutes. This will soften the stuck-on messes so that they easily wipe away with a sponge or paper towel.
Coffee Maker - Run 50/50 vinegar/water through your drip coffee maker or Keurig to descale and clean the machine and water reservoirs.
My favorite recipe which works with either white or apple cider vinegar is below:
2 large cucumbers
1 large tomato or 2-3 roma tomatoes
1 red onion
1/2 cup italian dressing
1/2 cup vinegar
1tsp sugar or sugar substitute
Thinly slice all vegetables (a mandolin makes this a sinch!) and dress with a combination of dressing, vinegar, and sugar. Let sit in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled. The recipe gets better on the 2nd day.
